Tools for Imagination
MACRO - Museo d'Arte Contemporanea
Roma

Screening and conversation with Céline Condorelli and Luca Lo Pinto

"Tools for Imagination" is an artwork by artist Céline Condorelli which will become part of the MACRO collection. This work intends to develop a wider and articulated investigation on the topic of Leisure. Through the production of a body of works, talks and study materials, the project explores the history of work (productive time) and its necessary negative, the history of leisure (unproductive time), generating a paradox concerning the museum as the institution that, par excellence, perform the notion of time freed from working hours.
Friday 29 October at 7 pm in the auditorium, the artist (live streaming) will converse with Luca Lo Pinto starting from "Tools for Imagination".
"Tools for Imagination" is an artwork by Céline Condorelli produced by Ramdom (Italy) and supported by the Italian Council (8th edition 2020), program to promote Italian contemporary art in the world by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture.

Le Stanze di Ramdom
Lastation

Jacopo Rinaldi, Intervallo / Nuvola Ravera, Fine

OTEonline
Lastation and Ramdom

2'' Deep 2" Wide
A project by Frédéric Xavier Liver
Curated by Claudio Zecchi
Lincoln (UK)
(Temporarily suspended due to COVID-19)

IN THE PAINT / Piccoli Italiani Crescono; Installation of a Net, Neons and Basketball Ball. 2018

With 2'' Deep 2'' Wide Frédéric Xavier Liver continues his research on playgrounds in public spaces. Starting from the signs and symbols of basketball, the objective will be, through a series of workshops, to rethink and turn away certain elements of the playground, such as lines, nets, jerseys, etc. The project will be activated by the selection of 8 artists – a basketball team is made by 5 players – so we will be looking for potential cooperation with the local communities and University of Lincoln students.  Artists will then be invited to express their imagination in order to create their ideal jersey and playground, and share this new space in a collective performance. The playground will be a privileged space for physical training, but also a meeting place and a shared aesthetic experience.

The research residency will also be an opportunity to connect with other artists and curators from across the UK and Europe. Taking place in the beautiful and historic city of Lincoln. Lincoln boasts a stunning medieval cathedral, and Cultural Quarter which includes Lincoln Drill Hall, The Collection and Usher Gallery; home to work by Turner and Lowry.
With Michael Jordan's jersey on our shoulders, a ball in hand, led by Robert Filliou's Principle of Equivalence, we will try to define and craft our playground to be able to share it and play together over the following days. Whether you are curious, a student, a teacher, an artist, an institution or a member of the public, come and play with us.
For more information about the residency, please download the full brief, which includes an indicative timetable, as well as eligibility and selection criteria. Please note that artists must be aged between 18-30 on 13th April to apply for this opportunity.
Participating artists will receive £100 towards their attendance.  UKYA will provide suitable accommodation (this is generally offered on a shared basis) and meals for the duration of the research residency and up to £50 per person for return train travel costs to Lincoln.

Please follow the link below to the online application form. Please note that you cannot save this form and return to it later, so we recommend composing your answers in a word document and pasting these into the form when you are ready to submit.

If you have any access requirements or are having difficulty using the application form, please reach out to Laura by email: laura@ukyoungartists.co.uk

Mediateca OTE - Osservatorio sulle Terre Estreme
Ramdom / Lastation

The Multimedia Library Observatory on the Extreme Lands is an important reference and research tool for artists and researchers as well as enthusiasts who want to investigate contemporary art productions and their uses in peripheral contexts.

Here we gather and make available the work made by Ramdom since it’s foundation (2011) and specifically since 2014, the year in which the Investigation on the Extreme Lands program was launched. So far many artists, curators, cultural operators, and local inhabitants have taken part in a process of critical analysis and re-reading of the theme of Landscape and Territory through physical, anthropological and social meanings.

The Mediateca‘s heritage consists of the works produced over the years by all the artists in residence, including their process materials and the documentation of the many activities made so far by Ramdom. In addition to this central collection, a small but precious and interesting selection of books, catalogs, and periodicals are housed here thanks to the donations of publishers and authors.

The current, ongoing, layout has been conceived almost as an exhibition in the exhibition. The opening of the Multimedia library Observatory on the Extreme Lands happily coincide with the inauguration of Everything escapes us. This occasion has driven us, almost instinctively, to not present a real workspace, as it will be, but a sort of curated space with the artworks so far made by artists and researchers that Ramdom has hosted. The selection has at its core the theme of Landscape / Territory, a sort of border or trigger if one wants, to push forth the research already completed at Lastation.

Last spring in St. Ives Cornwall, UKYA ran our second ‘Weekender’ residency, curated by Claudio Zecchi in collaboration with Chiara Dellerba and Garth Gratrix. In this performative talk, the curators use the zine as a device to instigate and trigger an immersive and performative discussion, seeking to re-think and re-define the Cornish Weekender atmosphere with the participation of the artists and the public.
The presentation, an exercise proposed in the form of a card game, is aiming to actively engage the imagination of the public – both artists already participating in St. Ives and the general public – as an act of believing.

Public Sphere: Process and Practices_The Sao Paulo Spin-off

PIVÔ Open Studio

June 2017, São Paulo (Brazil)
(book presentation)

Supported by BJCEM (Biennale des jeunes créateurs de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée) and curated by Claudio Zecchi, “Public Sphere: Process and Practices” is the third chapter of a discursive nomadic research conceived as a long-term narration and known as “Practices as an Intersection in a Fragile Environment”.
Focusing on the relationship between art and the public sphere, this project was the culmination of months of conversations with artists, curators, institutions and communities across the city of Nottingham (UK) undertaken by Italian curator Claudio Zecchi.
Seeking to explore the fragile relationship between these two entities, this project in the form of a game, aimed to unearth how art engages with the local area and community, and the legacy of these relationships.
The book as a final result is a sort of performative vocabulary made in conversations with the visual artist and designer Roberto Memoli.
Ready to be re-thought, the three words can be continuously re-negotiated, re-wrote and re-invented.

COME IN AND PLAY!
___

___

Both UKYA and Abingdon Studios are pleased to welcome you all to the Weekender Residency; allowing artists across all art -forms to come together to reflect and respond to the idea of  “popular culture”.  What is it to be isolated yet immersed, popular but forgotten? It is a parody of itself, multi-layered and fantastical but perhaps equally flat and macabre. It is a place for self progression, reflection or procrastination dependent on the mind which subjectively enters into the northern pleasure on the coast.

Public Sphere: Process and Practices, the book

The launch of the book “Public Sphere: process and practices” at studio Co-Co in Rome is the first appointment of a series that will happen over the entire year across Europe.

The volume, Institutionally supported by the BJCEM (Biennale des Jeunes Créateurs d'Europe et de la Méditerranée), is a concept book made by the visual artist and graphic designer Roberto Memoli who followed the last part of Claudio Zecchi’s residency in Nottingham (UK). Memoli has also followed the visual communication of the project. Although the process was the main part of the project, the outcome, a sort of collective game which took place at the New Art Exchange – the Institution that also supported the project in England – aimed to bridge different sorts of public (professionals in the field of art and non-professionals) in order to think a different way to dialogue.

Starting from the book, the talk, moderated by curator Giorgia Noto, will aim to unearth different aspects and topics touched by the project across all these years. Photos and video documentation will be projected.

The project made in Nottingham was the third chapter of an ongoing project that started in 2014 in Milan at Fabbrica del Vapore and continued in New York at Residency Unlimited. New chapters will soon be announced.

Nomadismo culturale - The Others Art Fair
TheOthers Art Fair, November 4th, Turin (Italy)
(roundtable)

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCbNX2y_T-lo0RpGM7lR03MD5T6XYwcCCmDUduJbiJlD-RvNyxoIbpd9dZHjaMpgwq3mi0nxRmqCRw5IbjBH8aRZT_8tjZCVuOhdGSk3alaU2b10UGqWBSqam2V7HSsOXlSnnzzF-l7mM/s640/home00-2.jpg

L'École du Magasin with Alberto Gemmi, Mirco Marmiroli, Armance Rougiron, Chen Ben Chetrit, Eleonora Castagna and me

___

The Art and the Public Sphere, its relation with the territory and the local communities. How, specifically, these affect the artistic, curatorial and institutional (and more) practices? How, vice-versa, the practices engage with the territory?
This is the topic at the core of Practices as an Intersection in a Fragile Environment. A long-term project where each territory surveyed added a different chapter into the whole narration. Each chapter unearths indeed different stories trying to narrate them in a different way.

A process and a practice that try to explore crucial issues. What means curate discursive projects? Which are the potentialities of the ephemeral (dysfunctional) in the curatorial practices? Is the outcome necessary?

Produced by More Art and organized by Jennifer Dalton and William Powhida, MONTH2MONTH is a public programming in private apartments in New York City.

MONTH2MONTH explores New York’s labyrinthine housing policies, that range from the inclusion of “affordable” housing units within new luxury developments and the rezoning plans that quickly transform neighborhoods to the quasi-legality of the “sharing economy” and the rise of “illegal hotels.” This exploration will at times take the form of information sharing, but also use unorthodox methods to push discussions into unfamiliar places.

«When young artists move into an area in search of affordable housing, their arrival is often seen as a harbinger of gentrification and displacement to come. The phenomenon is common enough that it has been dubbed The Soho Effect based on the downtown neighborhood’s rapid transformation after creative types started snapping up loft space in the 1970s. Developers have discovered the galvanizing effect that artists can have on “under-the-radar” corners of the city, and according to an article in Quartz some are flipping the script and attempting to draw youthful trendsetting types to places where they want to build, rather than following them there.
All this is to say that the relationship between art and real estate can become a contentious one. And fodder for creative work. CityLabreports CityLabreports that New York artists William Powhida and Jennifer Dalton are planning a month-long, interactive project called “Month2Month” that delves into this complicated overlap. Incontro sull'Arte Pubblica. Riflessioni su pratiche, fini e mezzi.
Università di Pisa. Dipartimento di Civiltà e Forme del Sapere, Pisa (Italy), October 2015
(lecture)

Interverranno:
Lorenzo Carletti (storico dell’arte) Alessandra Ioalè (curatrice) Ilaria Mariotti (storica dell’arte e curatrice) Angel Moya Garcia (co-direttore per le arti visive della Tenuta dello Scompiglio) Phillippa Peckham (artista) Radical Intention (collettivo artistico) Andrea Santarlasci (artista) Silvia Vendramel (artista) Tatiana Villani (artista)

It’s important to keep in mind that New York City was, and in fact still is, indigenous land.

“Before me and after my time 2” Il progetto dell’artista Angelo Bellobono porta a Roma i nativi Lenape e la storia di Manhattan.

It’s important to keep in mind that New York City was, and in fact still is indigenous land.

The MAAM Museum in Rome hosts "Before me and after my time 2" a project by the Italian visual artist Angelo Bellobono with the aim to focus on the Native Americans of the Lenape's community and on the history of Manhattan.
The visit of one of the representatives and descendants of the Lenape Native Americans, the first ancient inhabitants of Manhattan (Indian name that originates from Mannahatta "island of many hills"), becomes the occasion to learn more about the ancient Native American culture and know more about its population that has been living in New York since 7,000 years.
Jack Criyng Raven Anderson is a Native American activist and artist from the Ramapough Lenape community who, for about one year, is working together with Angelo Bellobono in a project that aims at creating awareness on different aspects, also the most problematic, concerning the everyday life of this population.

The Louisville Table
IDEAS - activating a creative workforce. Louisville, Kentucky (USA), June 2015
(talk)

The Louisville Table

The Louisville Table, Talk

Jambalaya's ingredient (to prepare after the talk)

The Louisville Table is a social object and appliance solidifies the art object with a communitarian energy by making it a vehicle of social change on a larger scale.
DIY nomadic versions are being developed to engage rural Kentucky communities in conversation about Art and connectivity, healthy eating and social engagement.
The curator's roundtable discussion revolved around art, design, social engagement and the territory.
Starting from the project developed here in NYC - Practices as an Intersection in a fragile Environment - my intervention aimed at investigating, from a Euro-Mediterranean perspective, how the artistic, curatorial and institutional practices are engaged with the territories and local communities
Starting from some specific study cases, my intervention intentionally zoomed the fragile and precarious space such as that of the relationship between the arts and the public space.
