“Tools for Imagination” è un’opera dell’artista Céline Condorelli che intende sviluppare una riflessione articolata sul concetto del tempo libero. Attraverso la produzione di opere, talks e materiali di studio, il progetto evidenzia come la storia del lavoro (tempo produttivo) rispecchia perfettamente la storia del tempo libero (tempo “improduttivo”), generando un paradosso su cosa produce un museo, istituzione che, per eccellenza, nasce come espressione del tempo liberato dalle ore di lavoro.
“Seguo una linea che mette in relazione la storia del lavoro con la storia del tempo libero in quanto suo necessario negativo, guardando alla situazione specifica dello spazio-tempo della società del tempo libero, che certamente viviamo lavorando nel mondo della cultura (con il nostro lavoro e quello delle istituzioni): sto dopotutto facendo un lavoro per genitori e figli per i fine settimana o per i giorni festivi”. L'opera finale consiste in un'installazione composta da quattro elementi differenti - una scultura, una seduta, un pavimento e un film realizzato in collaborazione con l'artista inglese Ben Rivers - prodotti singolarmente in occasione delle mostre internazionalei realizzate nel cosrso dell'anno presso la sede dei partner di progetto. Ogni opera si relaziona con lo spazio che la ospita di volta in volta affrontando un aspetto specifico del tema proposto mentre l'installazione finale, che raggruppa tutte le opere precedentemente prodotte nella forma di un playground, sarà destinata alla collezione permanente del MACRO di Roma.
Il progetto prevede inoltre alcuni momenti pubblici destinati all'approfondimento teorico come nel caso della conversazione con Maurizio Lazzarato presso il Frac Lorraine.
Una pubblicazione finale, compendio di saggi e immagini, sarà realizzata con Archive Books (Berlino, Germania).
“Tools for Imagination” è un’opera prodotta da Ramdom (Italia) in collaborazione con FRAC Lorraine (Francia), TEA -Tenerife Espacio de las Artes (Comunità autonoma delle Isole Canarie, Spagna), South London Gallery (UK), Muzeum Sztuki (Polonia) e il MACRO – Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Roma (Italia).
Il progetto è sostenuto dell’Italian Council (8.a Edizione 2020) programma di promozione di arte contemporanea italiana nel mondo della Direzione Generale Contemporanea del Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali per il Turismo.

“Tools for Imagination”, is an artwork by artist Céline Condorelli that intends to develop a wider and articulated investigation on the topic of Leisure. Through the production of a body of works, talks and study materials, the project explores the history of work (productive time) and its necessary negative, the history of leisure (unproductive time), generating a paradox concerning the museum as the institution that, par excellence, perform the notion of time freed from working hours.
“I am following a line that mirrors the history of work to the history of leisure as it’s necessary negative, looking at the specific situation that of course, by working in culture, we inhabit (with our labor and institutions) the time-space of society’s leisure: I am after all making work for parents and children at weekends or on holidays”. The final artwork consists of four different elements - a sculpture, a seat, a floor, and a film made in collaboration with English artist Ben Rivers - produced for each of the international exhibitions that will be made along the entire year in the project's partners venue. Each of the artwork is in dialogue with the space that host it dealing with a specific aspect of the proposed theme while the final installation, that gathers the artworks previously done in the form of a playground, will be destined to the permanent collection of MACRO Museum in Rome.
The project also includes public moments addressed to be theoretical study as in the case of the conversation with Maurizio Lazzarato - the official launch of the project - at FRAC Lorraine.
A final publication, a collection of essays and images, will be edited with Archive Book (Berlin, Germany).
